STEER WELL CLEAR!! Nagwon Feinschule Hagwon in Bonseon-dong in Nam-gu, Gwangju

I worked at Nagwon Feinschule Hagwon in Bonseon-dong in Nam-gu, Gwangju for 1 year 3 months and I will touch on the problems that caused with my visa later on.

I had issues from the get-go. First, off the apartment I was given, I had to share with the principal (FYI The principal is also the owner of the Feinschule franschise). Despite saying the apartment is mine, the other room was full of her stuff and she came and went into my apartment as she pleased and even stayed over despite my protests she couldn’t and me constantly changing the door code. This was extremely stressful and even when I went on vacation and a good friend volunteered to pet sit for the duration of 2 weeks at my apartment, I was told the principal would be staying there and she couldn’t so I had to find another way for someone to pet sit my cat. Which of course was very stressful and infuriating. Not to mention this apartment meant taking 2 buses to get home from work. The principal also used to gossip with the teachers about the cleanliness of my apartment and any male friends who came to see me. The next day all the teachers would know about it.

My time working there was horrendous, they overworked me, changed timetable so often, I got confused about times of classes finishing. I had no support or co-teachers to assist me in my classes and I felt alone and a complete outsider. They had high expectations but hardly any materials to supplement my classes as the principal was very greedy with money and it was clear to see she didn’t want to put money into the Hagwon at all.
The contract means nothing when working for this company, they always made me stay behind after work with no notice, unpaid and they refused to let me go home even If I declined. They also were very forceful in working on weekends and Friday nights mostly. Even when the contract stated 5 unpaid Saturdays, I am certain it was more than that. I was never compensated for any extra work at all. One occasion the teachers ganged up on me and physically blocked the door so I could not leave because I had to stay behind after work which they told me only 3 hours before it took place.  Time off work in the contract does not mean anything either. I was meant to be at work at 10am. I was told I had to help on the school bus from 9am and yes that wasn’t paid for overtime. Not to mention they changed the finishing time to 30 minutes later than my contract which I again, did not agree to and was not compensated for either.

There was one teacher there that was just as bad as the principal, she was always in a bad mood and took her anger and stress out on me for no reason, sometimes she would be nice but most of the time she was in a foul mood. One time I was humiliated because I had an emergency personal appointment at a woman’s clinic and I was told I had to be at work at a certain time, I, of course, didn’t make it, despite them being aware I wouldn’t be back in time. I have never been subjected to such emotional and verbal abuse until I worked there. I was worn down so far, I was depressed, no self-confidence and low self-esteem.

My 1-year contract finished and I decided I would stick it for 3 months so I can join the next intake for the public school system. I was shocked when they gave me a 1-year contract, I knew this wasn’t right and when I addressed this with them, they told me it was solely for me leaving the country for vacation for immigration so I can get back in and they would provide me with a new different contract. They never did. I bought what they said and signed and this caused further problems later.
It was time for my departure from the school, they told me I had to provide a 1-year lesson plan for Kindergarten and a 6 month for Elementary. When I submitted it they were still not satisfied. I think this was solely done out of spite, as I cannot fathom to see how that would be necessary.

Before leaving, three teachers knew I was changing to public school, these people made me believe they were my friends, but it was clear to see they were also just as snide and sly as the other teachers. The principal doesn't speak English at all may I add, so these 2 teachers usually had to speak to her on my behalf. This teacher straight up told me she didn’t tell the Principal I was leaving but I was going back to England to study because she won’t release me from the contract otherwise (the 1-year contract signing for a 3-month extension was another way they could blackmail and control me).  They later denied this and the teachers believed them over me and said I was a liar.

So I left with my pay but no severance, (they said they would pay that within 2 weeks, it never came) and I went to orientation for 2 weeks with my new job, when it came to going to immigration for my new job it started to become a huge problem. They called the Hagwon, the principal lied and said I had run away. (Which makes no sense as they provided me with a reference letter for that very job). This became an issue, so as one final way to control and spite me the Principal invented up a false scenario. Apparently, the apartment I had stayed at was completely wrecked and cost more than my severance. So, they blackmailed me into getting a release letter if I accept the severance can pay for “damages”. I took them to the labour board and I didn't win either, despite the law stating the school are not to withhold my severance, as that's my money I paid into every month from my pay.

I would highly suggest If you want to stay sane and not be taken advantage of to stay away from this place. I can genuinely say they have affected my mental health severely. So much so when I worked at my next job at a great Public School, I was always on edge I was going to annoy someone or get shouted at because I made a simple mistake, this of course never happened because they treated me like a human being, not like property. I would not wish this place on my worse enemy. Prison labour isn’t this degrading and mentally debilitating.

Considering Korean culture is all about saving face, I was shocked I experienced such humiliation and degrading behaviour, not to mention that Korean’s are private people so it was weird that the Principal wanted to share an apartment with me.

STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!!! The principal is so drunk with power and greed she will do anything to control you and find ways of avoiding to paying you. I know past teachers and a teacher after me also experienced similar difficulties in pay and their experience of working there.

Just like Animals, Animals, like Animals

Well hey my delightful followers, as you can tell I am in a hella better mood than the last blog post. With good reason too, life is amazing and October is a fabulous month to be in a great mood we had Hangul day last Friday which meant a 3 day weekend!!!! I also have a wedding to attend in 7 days plus halloween is just around the corner! (honestly, where is the time going?)

I took the meaning of loving my food literally.
So far so good, I went out with my girls Emily and Elly for some super delicious Lobster. It was amazing! Never had lobster in a while and definitely not in a restaurant it was a mini feast and I will definitely be making a trip there again despite being a little pricey.

Despite being only a 4 day week after Chuseok the week dragged due to the fact Elly and I had a trip to Seoul planned. We left Thursday night and arrived in Seoul 1am we stayed in Gangnam at a fantastic guesthouse. We got back got ready and hit the bars, clubs at almost 3am in Itaewon. It was quiet being a Thursday so we got home about 6.30am. The next day we woke up at 10.30am which was pretty early considering we didn't actually goto bed until 7am. We hit the coffee shop for some overpriced green tea latte and went shopping in Gangnam. We bought some bits and pieces, had some fantastic lunch looked around some more then headed back to our guesthouse to doll ourselves up for a Friday night out in Itaewon. Despite Seoul being so hyped up I have no real love for the place, it was nice to visit but nothing that I haven't experienced before. It's a large place like London and full of many foreigners but the population being so high is stressful and overwhelming and puts me in a constant bad mood.

Harry Potter Beer
Bulldogs food
We met up with Kasper, a friend from Gwangju who recently moved to Seoul to study, we had dinner at an English restaurant called Bulldogs, we drank Harry Potter Butter beers and ate hot dogs which was just a british banger in a bun but with a twist it had mashed potato on top with gravy lol. We drank alcohol and partied until 5am, before heading home for some well needed rest before heading back to Gwangju. Our bus back to Gwangju was at 14.15 and I we got back in good time, but there's no rest for us animals so after I had done some well needed shopping in E-mart and Elly had finished her tutoring we headed back out in Gwangju for an awesome night with all the amazing people in Gwangju we see every weekend and partied yet again until about 5am. I ended up not actually going to bed until 7am, I genuinely don't know how my body hasn't just shut down on me yet due to the amount of partying and minimal rest i have in between. Fun times Gwangju, honestly despite having a great time in Seoul with Elly, Gwangju will never be beaten, I always know whenever I'm out on the weekends here I will see tons of people I know and I am guaranteed an awesome night out!

It's all just a fond memory and nostalgia to me now, back to work tomorrow *cries*. It was amazing, laughing and loving life. Let's kick this week in the ass so I can have yet another awesome weekend :)

I'll leave you with this random video, one of many random videos we filmed whilst in Seoul.

From strength to strength

So I haven't written on this blasted thing in a while and I feel it's long overdue. My life has been a whirlwind since I wrote a blog post, I went through a lot of up and downs.

Let's get the negative out the way so I can end on a positive note.

Since I last wrote I was in a difficult place and had been for a long time I was ridiculously heartbroken and I felt so alone. You can probably remember me mentioning it in a past post but literally up until last week I was carrying this great weight inside. I hid it well I think with just drinking a shit load and going out more and meeting new people. That's the good news and I'll touch on that in the next part. I find myself everyday fighting with my thoughts trying any way to distract myself it really truly affected me, I don't know why I wasn't prepared for it because falling in love with someone does that to you.

But I'm not writing to discuss him, it's what happened during this time that I ultimately regret, I made a decision which at the time seemed like a great way to move forward and heal. Now this decision started a chain of problems of which I have only just nipped in the bud last week, I went through stresses of fighting with this guy who I called my friend, he came between me and one of my girl friends and he manipulated me at a time I wasn't at my strongest and I had let my guard down.  He was a serial liar and probably one of the best actors I have ever come across. He thought I didn't know but I knew what his real intentions were, never underestimate a girl whose been hurt a billion times, I'm already 1 step ahead of you. So me being smart I retaliated in the best way I know how, mind fuckery, I killed him with kindness but at the same time never let him win at his pathetic game playing he thought he called the shots and every time I would just shoot him down. In the end I got tired and bored of fucking with his mind so I ended our friendship. If you could ever call it that in the first place. I win asshole!!!

Elly, Brian and Kasper and I at Tequilaz
Now every tunnel has a light even if that tunnel is like 5 months long lol so here's the light, the night the cracks in that so called friendship started to show, was also in contrast the time the day my life would change for the better. I started to make friends, I met Elly and Brian aka Hansol and Suyoung and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. From then on my friendship circle grew dramatically, literally weekend after weekend I was networking and meeting foreigners and Koreans. This was the all mighty sweet cherry hehe on top of my mountainous cake of self-loathing, since then my life has dramatically turned around I've done some amazing stuff with amazing people in the short time I've known these new friends. I can't go anywhere in Gwangju now without spotting people I am acquainted with.

Chuseok was probably the most memorable so far, I did things I wouldn't even dream of doing i.e. 40 hour benders and drinking 5 days straight. This is just the beginning too this week I am going to Seoul and the following weekend I am going to a wedding and you can't forget halloween!
Another gleaming beacon of happiness that entered my life was on the 13th September, I brought home this 3 month old ginger kitten who I've named Jackson or Jax for short after the notoriously sexy and bad ass Jackson Teller from Sons of Anarchy.

He's so sexy when he's angry ;)

Now normally I am a dog person, I still think I am at heart. But realistically cats are lower maintenance and can be left at home pretty well too, but I love my cat all the same, despite being a pain in the ass at times.
Jax loves naps

I love Gwangju here's some pics from the past few months of some of the awesome people I have met. I love here so much I am staying for a second year! Muchos Love x

Nal bogo michyeo!

What can I say? This week has been crazy as f*ck. I've been ill, technically I'm still not fully recovered Let's hope I don't catch MERS!!!!! D: I've been slap banged with a change to the curriculum due to new management, which meant a last minute pile of tests and vocab sheets to write. Thank F*ck for coffee! It's all done now, the big test is on Thursday but in the run ups I need to teach this vocab to them.  Grrr.. I'm slightly freakin' out about that in all honesty.

I'm also not looking forward to having to argue my working hours again on Monday, as they want to extend it by a further 30 minutes which is not in my contract and extra work I am not getting paid for plus the time I travel to get home, settle down eat, workout etc. it literally means going home and going straight to sleep with no time to unwind.

Aside from that I'm ok, I'm planning for Busan but it might get pushed back into August just for more preparation time etc. Either way this summer I'm hitting the beaches, pushing back dates is not necessarily a bad thing as my birthday I can hold a crazy booze filled weekend and gives me more time to get this body in tip top bikini ready shape. The weight loss is going amazing! I have been here just under 2 months and i've lost more weight than I lost in that 3 months in England. I say weight loss, but the scales have not done much in changing, I however have been measuring myself regularly and I am noticing real changes!!! I reckon all the protein I'm eating means I'm gaining muscle at the same time hence the lack of weight changes. My fridge is packed full of eggs, protein milk, fruit, organic vegetables, chicken! WIN!!!!

appetiser and sides
So the weekend was crazy, I've been so good with my spending since I got here, I've been out on the lash once and that was when I arrived, I go out Saturdays to eat and cycle with the gaturi sister, Jest came over one weekend and we drank a load of beer and soju but nothing that broke the bank, Korea I love how cheap you are! I really don't spend much money on food, it's kinda samey at the moment, but as I eat lunch at school, I find it doesn't bother me so much. So this weekend I went a little crazy on the shopping for the first time, I bought quite a few beauty things, stuff for the kids at school, stationary, some clothes and accessories. I also want to add there was sales everywhere so majority of the stuff I bought was half the price, so despite buying so much stuff I really didn't spend much at all.
spicy seafood fried rice and pho

The sis and I went to a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch, it was banging! We had a seafood fried rice and pho and an appetiser, with some ice jasmine tea, it was immense, it was so clean and healthy I was so full but not feel bloated it was awesome!

finding my next mad conquest in a store of cute things
SURPRISE! found a tiny child's party hat
After that we got started on the retail therapy, it felt like christmas for me, everywhere were sales and things were so damn cheap! That may seem like such a typical female thing but shopping with me is not a normal affair, in fact put me with someone just as mentally unstable together in a town full of shops *COUGH*Mimi*COUGH*, you have trouble on yours hands. I like to mess about, play and experiment with things that aren't necessarily age appropriate, be an idiot in general public in all honesty I revel in what I do best and thats be 100% crazy! Embrace the madness...or so I keep telling myself ;). Here's some fine examples of what we get up to when we were out and about in Downtown.  The weather was complete sh*t though but that didn't put too much of a downer on my weekend.

cute snapbacks! That shit Cray!
So after shopping the plan was meant to go out and have a mad all nighter getting crunk with the Jestmeister and Yunwoo, the first people I hit the clubs with when I got here actually. I haven't seen Yunwoo or spoke to him since then actually. Anyways the reason I didn't get to see them, was well a huge ass storm decided to come by and fuck up my weekend and I was buried under a load of paperwork, so Cherry's mad weekend turned out to be a quiet night in, banging out vocab sheets and tests. It wasn't so bad though, I got it all done with plenty of time to spare today, so much I had done my shopping, pampered myself, cleaned again, watched 4 episodes of game of thrones and it's still reasonably early. Is 10.30pm early?

It's been a chill weekend and its only 10 days until payday, I still have so much dough left for this month! I still can't fathom that I send home half of my wages and still have way too much money to live off for a month!

I'm gonna close this post today with a thought: I question my sanity at times, I can't work out if I'm genuinely fucked up or if it's a coping mechanism. Is it really true, all the best people are crazy?

Gaturday adventures on the cheap...

As I write this, the smell of strawberry nail polish remover lingers on my hands, don't ask why I thought that was necessary to tell you about but I feel strawberry smelling liquid solvents is a good metaphor for the cool and crazy things that exist and occur in South Korea.

But before I go onto the wacky adventures of Miss Von Dee, here's an update on my week; my last class I have everyday is one class I really do not look forward to, my students are extremely bright but this also means they don't want to learn, they talk too much when I'm talking (in Korean may I add) and generally lack respect for the "new english" teacher. They are the only class I find very difficult which is ironic as they are the most advanced class I teach and when they do listen they pick it up very quickly and thats my lesson done within 10 minutes with nothing left to do then to sit and ponder ways to spice up the lesson and keep them engaged for the next 30 (which seems impossible at the moment). There was a day last week when I'm pretty sure I pissed off my boss (which may I add is not actually my fault), the school needs to have system in place in order to be more organised, the constant change in the kindergarten timetable and combination of lack of training (plopping me in several teachers classes for like a week is not training). This puts me in difficult situations which affects my performance and of course reflects on what sort of teacher I am, which at the moment looks like a shitty, unprepared teacher with no time keeping skills.

My week could have gone a lot worse if it wasn't for my friend Katie who sent me a package full of home comforts and treats, she was more than willing to help me and post me out stuff I needed, she didn't even mind picking up a bar of cadburys chocolate for my Ggaturi sister! Katie if you are reading this I want to say thank you again, I cant say enough just how much I appreciate the generosity and kindness of this girl. She did amazing with getting everything I needed so speedily, this girl just knows me too well I swear (I guess in the whole 6 years she's known me she has being paying attention to me) she really is a super mum!
Stuff thats too expensive to buy in Korea or hard to get hold of, as well as cute pirate themed gift from Katies son.

The trials and tribulations of Cherry but it continued to improve!
Friday the 15th May was National Teachers Day in Korea, which usually involves students giving gifts and flowers to teachers. I was invited by the principal along with the other teachers to go out for the meal on Thursday evening, most of the time I was just sitting there as I have yet to understand Korean, but I did get a few conversations thrown my way. We enjoyed some delicious food and some Korean beer which was nice, all courtesy of the school.

Handmade Rose pen, a gift from one of my students and Korean Rice Cakes from my boss.
I finally received my alien registration card after being in the country almost a month! Any expat will know if you work and live Korea this card is the magic key that enables you to open a bank account and get a phone number in Korea, as well as other stuff like renting bikes at subway stations, which leads onto today...

The Gaturday adventures (finally!) which I'm sure most of you came here to read, the day always starts by meeting my Korean sister Chloe, she suggested we rented bikes from the subway station as it was free and they were a lot nicer! We hopped onto our bikes and drove around Samgu like we just escaped a local asylum. We managed to cycle all the way to downtown, which if you know is like 10 minutes from my apartment, to put some perspective on the distance we rode, I live 1 hour and half away from Samgu by bus, so the distance we cycled was pretty far, but I guess time passes by so much quicker when you're taking in views, concentrating on ways to stop your ass hurting from the worst bike seat I have ever sat on and listening to Oasis, Bruno Mars and Korean artists resonate from Chloe's phone, all of course whilst we were howling at the top of our lungs because it was our jam!

A really bad picture of me, but this is us on our bikes near downtown!
But this is where the madness only started to begin, you know how people say bad things always happen in three's.. well replace 'bad' with 'down right fucked up'. These events all occurred within a space of about 10 minutes apart from each other. So we are cycling on this cycle path that runs along a river, which I was told actually connects to everywhere in South Korea, not just Gwangju, these bike paths are all interlinked to each other. If I had the stamina and not a seat that was like a brick on my arse I may have quite possibly considered cycling to Yosu (maybe a 6 hour cycle?) but I really lack that stamina and I would be dead because I would have probably ran myself into traffic just to end the torment that this particular bicycle seat was causing me, (I cant help but feel violated, even as we speak, my butt feels like i sat on top of a traffic cone.) As I was saying...

...event number 1: You get two lanes just like on a road, some reason today there were shit loads of pigeons just co-existing on this bike path for miles, I have no idea why, they weren't there last Gaturday, we were zooming along and I spot two pigeons in my lane which I was quickly approaching and they weren't moving, I swerved and stopped thinking one pigeon was injured, neither were, I shit you not one was lying there all comfy and this other pigeon was standing on top of its back walking on it like some crazy pigeon masseuse. I later found out from Chloe they were engaging in sexual activities and I had miss the part where they were grinding up on each other. Why they chose to do it on the bike path is beyond me but it makes you wonder what sort of fucked up pigeon sex these pigeons were engaging in :/.

Event 2: So after recovering from almost running over two horny pigeons we were cycling along side these statues and lanterns in the river and gazing at their beauty, now if you know me well and know anything about Asian culture in general, you will know tattoos are viewed very differently here and not very common. So it was no surprise I stuck out like a sore thumb when cycling around, it is also pretty clear to see I am a foreigner which also makes me stand out along with my tattoos and my height. I was cycling as you do and I cycled past this tall hut full of old Korean men and they were shouting stuff in English, like "OK" "BEAUTIFUL!" It was so funny and rather sweet but totally bizarre, I guess no matter where I go men are men and they like to shout at women. What can I say I draw attention to myself I have to live with it, but times like this you can't help but laugh.

Event number 3: We were getting closer to down town and along this bike path that stretched on for miles there are many bridges, (very low may I add,) I had to do some weird crouching under these bridges (What are these bridges for ants??) I hear strange Korean hip hop-esque music echoing louder and louder and I saw a group of Koreans, but not just any group of Koreans, these were Korean OAP's dressed in funky coloured hiking gear all congregated together doing some weird OAP style hip hop dancing, It was the most bizarre and the most hilarious thing I had ever seen, words can not describe the amusement that was bestowed on me, I just wish I had filmed it.

After these strange occurrences we decided to head back for some more mouth watering and refreshing Korean dessert that I have come to adore and I probably would never have discovered it without Chloe. It literally is like a party in your mouth and today she recommended we try a new variety which was not any less delicious than the last. I highly recommend trying these desserts when you can get a chance, I feel my life has taken a new turn since I found these saliva inducing treats and it always tastes better when you share it with someone.

Nom nom nom! Probably my favourite Korean Dessert.
That was Gaturday for another week, I'm looking forward to another adventure, this stuff is great because money is low, I am very grateful to have met such a kind and generous friend, who I find to always have such a good time with and many adventures are still to come and can only get better when I actually have regular income!

I bid you farewell for this week thank you if you read all of this!!!

I shall leave you with this thought... After all the crazy occurrences today, I was left wondering one thing... Is it still called dogging if it's pigeons instead of people?

Happy "Ggaturday!" ^^

Ggaturi, ggaturi, ggaturi, ggaturiiiiii!!!!!

Ahem.. so "Ggaturday" is a word I coined up from a private joke that my Korean Sister Chloe and I laugh at and say a shit load like total loonatics. I would explain the story but its too long to explain why it's so funny and it's a 'you had to be there' sort of joke to even find it remotely humorous. But in short its a play on the day Saturday (Ggaturi+Saturday=Ggaturday). The word Ggaturi itself is Korean for a 'Ring Necked Pheasant'.

Being Ggaturday, like usual its mine and Chloe's day to meet up and its great she's born and bred in Gwangju, she speaks amazing English and we have similar tastes, interests and personalities. So today was no exception we met up and she showed me parts of Gwangju I have yet to discover and she also introduces me to new Korean foods, teaches me Korean stuff and just be a couple of mad women on the weekend.

I just want to start by talking about my week it went by very quickly (I think that day off on Tuesday helped) but Thursday was a pretty rough day for me, I feel there were a few conflicts at work, that are not an issue no longer I don't think, but at the time was not great, I also got some sad news of a family friend who passed away from his battle with cancer and just other personal issues in my life. This weekend is well earned and well called for...

So, today was pretty cool, me and the Ggaturi sister both love fitness and health stuff and I am trying to survive on little money at the moment due to not getting paid until next month. So she showed me a park in Sangmu you rent a bike for a mere £1.50 for an hour plus the guy gave us a free hour. We went to the park that actually dedicated to cycling is awesome, it has proper cycle paths that go on for ages!!! All this is located next to a river its beautiful!!!! We cycled for a good two hours in the hot sun (I was dehydrated so much!) but basking in the suns rays cycling up and down seeing a few foreigners around and just laughing made it such a good day. Its always about the company, not how much money is spent, I've always appreciated nature and nature here is so pretty and so clean!!  I really loved the streams and the fact you can actually walk across them on this rock path they have on it, It reminded me of those times as a child you would step on rocks pretending the shallow water of the stream was hot lava.

After cycling around like the loonatics that we are, with Chloe having a few close calls with bushes attacking her whilst cycling and getting lost, our two hours were up, so we took the bikes back and we headed for a Korean dessert restaurant for some red bean paste milk dessert. This is no exaggeration when I say that it has to be the best thing that I have ever had in my mouth, hell its even better than chocolate! I would pick it over a bar of chocolate any day. It consists of a "snow" made from milk, dried crushed beans and topped with a paste made from red beans, rice cake things similar to "mochi" and some slithers of dried dates, It was huge and I reckon some people could probably finish one to themselves if they are greedy, but me personally as orgasmic as it tasted, it would have been way too big for me, plus sharing is caring and way more enjoyable when you share it with a friend.  Korean cuisine is probably the best thing I've ever discovered, after just one week, I've lost 3kg! I love Korea!! I have definitely been contemplating settling here for good once I have finished travelling.

I also finally rode my first Subway train today to my house which is way quicker and costs the same as a bus, which is pretty damn cool, no doubt Korean subway trains put the London Underground to shame!

Another successful Ggaturday with my Korean Sister, looking forward to next weekend.

First day as an expat teacher in Gwangju City

Annyeonghaseyo!! So today was kinda my first day of work, I got the free school bus and will do from now on, every morning at 9am and I start work at 10am. I got there introduced myself in all the classes to the students and teachers, gave a load of high fives and received many a hug from the tiny people of Feinshule English Insitute Nak Won.

Lunch was nice, traditional korean meal, they had those really tiny anchovies that are so yummy, theyre called 멸치볶음 "bokeum myeolchi". I used to eat these little suckers back home (the ones back home were bigger, poor baby anchovy fish), my mum used to buy them from the oriental supermarket, they sound gross but I could literally live off those for the rest of my life.

Bokeum Myeolchi

After a delicious lunch, I was driven a good hour away to another Feinshchule institute in Gwangju (Feinschule has many private schools in Korea), I sat in and observed John and Jason's classes, John is from Bangladesh and Jason is an American. I got a load of information and it brought back the teaching energy within me because after 3 months in London with no employment would send any "good"  EFL/ESOL teacher into a complete shut down (no? only just me then). Considering they have both worked/studied here almost a decade I found out a great deal of info on Korea in general and made some new friends. One major factor being I need to acquire an Alien Registration Card, within 90 days of me staying in Korea as I plan to stay here the full year, before seeing what else the world has to offer me :D. This is not only mandatory but is beneficial in many ways! discounts on buses and more importantly free online Korean lessons offered by the Korean government!!! (fuck yeah!)

After a hard days work of sitting on my behind all day, I went back to my school and was run through the curriculum and schedule :) I have my materials and ready to begin (still flippin' nervous). One little predicament I did have today and it was small, I had no clue how to get back home, but the awesome people I work with, not only helped me, got one of the teachers who lives me near me to take me back on the bus, they also told me about this cool Korean equivalent of the shitty London Oyster Card, it's cool because its small, cute to look at, comes in a keyring form for your phone and more importantly shit cheap journeys are made even cheaper! WIN!!!!!!

Oyster Cards Cooler Korean Sister

I had planned to explore Gwangju this weekend, I honestly wouldn't know where to start, but I had been given a better offer by my colleague who had invited me to her special Saturday group meet ups, (she has a proper page on fb and everything) for expats (*cough*foreigners*cough*) so I'm going to meet other Koreans but also meeting a load of other non Koreans from across the globe (fingers crossed for some Londoners!) *screams with excitement*. So not only tomorrow are we going out for drinks and dinner, but we are going to watch the new Avengers!!!!!! I literally could not ask for a better weekend!!!! This will help me see whats going on down in the inter-city and I can find decent grocery stores that sell a good selection of food, so I don't have to resort to dirty processed seven eleven again -_-

That is all I have to say for now, I'm in the process of uploading this apartment tour video as I write this.

Najung-e boja! xxx <3

Day 1 in Korea

So flights went smoothly from London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi to Seoul Incheon Airport. I met the lady from the agency (she's actually adorable), she paid and got me on a 4 hour bus ride to Gwangju city on the opposite end of S.Korea (it seems whatever country i'm in I always end up living in the south).

Incheon Airport, Seoul

Anyways after a 16 hour flight and a 4 hour bus journey, I made it to the city of lights, home to many shops and the world cup stadium (I'm sure theres hella lot more, its a big city, 6 biggest city in S.Korea in fact). I met one of my colleagues at the bus station (she translates to me) and we jumped in the directors car, who could not speak english (come to think of it I don't even know their names!) Anywho they were both more than hospitable, they took me for a traditional Korean meal, showed me the school, bought me bread and gave me fresh eggs from her own chickens.
What I ate for dinner, traditional Korean cuisine

I am now lying in my awesome double bed in my apartment, jet lag has messed up my bodyclock, I have unpacked and the apartment is awesome, only downside being a two bed is the director can come and crash when she likes which I am not sure I am cool with. Weather is banging here also which is lovely. Also, the good thing about being in a huge city, theres a high population of foreigners even if i'm the only one at my school.

Any who, I'm up tomorrow at 7.30 to observe a kindergaten class and again the same monday, going to see how I can best organise myself for tomorrow.

Will update tomorrow with pics and on how my day went!
